Overview
The city is divided into three zones: the north end, known as Old Acapulco; the main part of the bay, known as Zona Dorada (golden zone); and to the south, the sparkling Diamante (diamond) zone dotted with high-rise luxury hotels, bars, restaurants, and lively nightclubs.
Located 240 miles south of Mexico City, Acapulco still shares its vast treasures with pleasure-seeking vacationers drawn to its bountiful shores, wellness offerings, golf courses and entertainment options. Don’t miss the unique opportunity to watch La Quebrada Cliff Divers plunge head first into Acapulco’s shining seas.
What To Do
Explore Old Acapulco on the west side of the city. Hop a boat to rustic Isla de la Roqueta, where you’ll find a small zoo, lovely beaches and hiking trails offering breathtaking vistas. Visit the Byzantine-style Cathedral Nuestra Senora de la Soledad, the historic Fort of San Diego and beautiful beaches including Caleta, Caletilla, and Manzanillo.
Take a trip to Pie de la Cuesta, a small seaside village north of Acapulco, and cruise the picturesque Laguna de Coyuca. Watch graceful La Quebrada Cliff Divers plummet headlong into Acapulco’s glistening seas.
When to Go
The sun seems to shine every day on this golden city by the sea. Acapulco's busiest season runs from November through May, coinciding with the dry season and when average daytime temperatures hover around the mid-80s F.
The rainy season lasts from June through October and is also popular with travelers. Although temperatures climb a little higher at this time, any rains tend to be brief, leaving lots of time for fun in the sun.
There are also plenty of special events occurring throughout the year in this festive city, such as Three Kings Day in January and Carnaval in mid-February.
